
Katherine Higgins, a Maine native, graduated from Bangor High
School and Husson College. She moved to Mt Desert Island in l952,
where she and her husband fished out of both Bass Harbor and
Southwest Harbor in their lobsterboats "Brown Eyes" and
"Breadwinner." Much of her poetry was written on the
way home from the Duck Islands, after hauling traps. Her work has
been published in seven anthologies. five issues of MAINE LIFE, A
HISTORY OF BARTLETT'S ISLAND, a MAINE GEOGRAPHY for intermediate
grades and four issues of DOWN EAST. Six of her poems are
included in THE FOUR SEASONS, a digest by Talking Books for the
Blind and Handicapped. She is a member of the Maine Poets Society
and lives on Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor, close to the
mountains and the sea.
