
Looking Back into the Sixties
Remember When.....
The Beatles invaded the Untied States with their bowl haircuts, then the Monkees followed,
trying to capture the Beatles popularity.
Everybody was twisting, swimming, and doing the mashed potatoes to songs. The
Rolling Stones began their thirty year career and Buffalo Springfield, the Mamas and the
Papas, and Jimi Hendrix all electrified people
with their music.........

The United States plunged into the War in Vietnam. Civil and women's rights protesters filled the streets in Washington with their posters and protests. War protesters fled to Canada and burned their draft cards.

Neal Armstrong became the first man on the moon. |
Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated and dampened African-American
people's hopes for racial equality...
Inventions such as the color and remote control TV fascinated people. Touch tone
phones and fax machines were developed and eventually revolutionized offices. Video
cameras and audio cassettes were created. People also had the choice to manually
brush their teeth or buy a new electronic toothbrush.
Where would our mail be if somebody had not develped a zip code to send it
to?
Hippies were all over America with bell bottoms, long hair, peace symbols, and
bandanas. Lava lamps and
beads decorated teen-age bedrooms. Tie-dyed shirts and flowers littered the American
landscape.

The drug culture rose as the war protest movement picked up speed......
Jackie Robinson became the first black baseball
player inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Star Trek took us to another
planet. Sesame Street gave children an educational
show just for them.
